Sam & Libby our fundraising superstars!!

When Sam and Libby found out about the work we do at Lakeside and the fact we needed funds to build a new school facility and secure the sites future, they decided they wanted to help in some way and chose to do a sponsored skydive with the Red Devils.

The skydive took place in Nottingham on 24 July and raised an amazing £1089 for the appeal. Sam commented, ‘it was an incredible, crazy, terrifying experience and I’m so pleased that I did it, but don’t currently have any plans to do it again!’

As a thank you for their amazing efforts we will be naming a bedroom after them in the completed campus. Here is the link if you would like to make a last minute donation https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/samm-swain

Sam and Libby we salute you and can’t thank you enough.

Lakeside Stoller Campus – we are on our way

The building work to create the new Lakeside Stoller Campus started back in early April and is progressing well. As can be seen from the images the steelwork is currently being erected so we are finally starting to get a glimpse of how the building is going to sit within its spectacular surroundings.

The building work is on track to be completed by the end of March 2019 with the first young people crossing the threshold and enjoying the new facilities in May/June time.

Although we have almost reached our fundraising target we still need to raise a further £100,000 by the end of this year. So, the Changing Young Lives appeal continues with our Sponsor a Bed campaign. This is an opportunity for individuals, companies or schools to donate £200 to sponsor one of the 265 beds that will be provided for our young people in the new Lakeside Stoller Campus building.

In return the donors name will be etched into a glass thank you wall that will be located in a prominent area of the building as a permanent reminder of their support.

The official ground-breaking at YMCA National Centre Lakeside to commence the construction of the YMCA Lakeside Stoller Campus

Seven years of hopes, dreams and hard work have reached fruition as the big build on the new Schools facility commences at YMCA Lakeside in Newby Bridge. The start of April sees the diggers come in and the hard hats come out as work starts on the impressive new £6.8m project.

The outdoor education centre has welcomed over 1 million young people since opening its doors over 60 years ago. With work on the new School and Youth facility  now starting, Lakeside will be able to grow the amount and quality of accommodation ensuring a more stimulating and inspiring place to learn.

Cassidy & Ashton from Preston have been appointed to act as the lead consultant overseeing the final design and building phase. Working with quantity surveyors Thornber & Walker, services consultants Beech Jackson Partnership and structuring & civil consultant Curtins Consulting Ltd, the team will ensure that the project is successfully completed by the end of May 2019.

Alistair Baines Chairman of Cassidy & Ashton commented ‘We are delighted to be involved in this very exciting project in what can only be described as a beautiful location on the shores of Lake Windermere at the heart of the National Park. We fully appreciate the importance of this project to the YMCA going forward and are proud to be involved in helping to deliver a significant development of the Lakeside centre that will undoubtedly provide long term, sustainable facilities for the Trust.

John Cronin CEO of YMCA Fylde Coast stated ‘We have worked hard to get to this stage of the project. I’d like to thank everybody involved – from the tireless fundraisers to all our incredibly loyal supporters who have ensured we can actually build this amazing new facility. This will impact on the lives of 10,000 young people every year.”

Today’s ground breaking ceremony was attended by the main build contractors, the award winning Lancashire construction company Conlon. Having most recently worked on the historic Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa Hotel, this was an opportunity for construction boss, Michael Conlon to view Lake Windermere from another stunning vantage point.

For Lakeside YMCA this isn’t the end of the story. Fundraising continues apace with Lakeland’s Sam Rayner energetically campaigning for funds to see the project to completion including a forthcoming Yes Chef event. Working with the best chefs in the North of England, May 3rd will see 3 “Yes Chef!” black tie dinners & charity auctions simultaneously hosted at Kendal College, Bartle Hall and Manchester’s The Monastery.

Having raised over 90% of the £6.8m needed to create the new facility, it is hoped that the Yes Chef”! foodie events will provide the final portion of build funding.

As a charity YMCA are well versed in creative funding. The sheer scale of this project is testament to that. Interested local supporters should watch this space for the next big drive as YMCA seek out sponsors for beds for the state of the art new accommodation.

A big thank you to our supporters who made the Yes Chef! event a success for the Changing Young Lives Appeal

On the 3rd May the YMCA Yes Chef event cooked up a storm and raised over £70,000 for the YMCA Lakeside Stoller Campus. Top chefs Lisa Goodwin-Allen, Simon Shaw, Andrew Green, Adam Reid and Simon Rogan gave their time for free to support the Yes Chef event. With the help of students from Blackpool and Fylde College, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester College and Lakes School of Hospitality Management they served up an evening of delicious food and entertainment for 560 guests over 3 venues – Kendal College, Bartle Hall Preston and the Monastery Manchester.

It was an amazing evening supported by none other than Mary Berry herself who attended the Manchester venue and was signing copies of her latest books. However, the fundraising is not over yet!  The YMCA will continue working to secure the last slice of funding required to reach our target of £6.8M. During the evening the Yes Chef diners were introduced to our Sponsor a Bed campaign, with several guests snapping up the first of limited opportunities to Sponsor a Bed in the new Lakeside Stoller Campus.

This sponsorship opportunity has a unique way of saying thank you to sponsors and they will recognise kind contributions by incorporating family, business, school, college or individual names into a bespoke design on a special featured thank you wall, situated in the most prominent area of the new building, looking out across the stunning Lake Windermere and the mountains.

The Sponsor a Bed campaign has now officially launched publicly following the Yes Chef event.  For more information and to submit a donation please visit: https://www.supportlakeside.org.uk/your-support/sponsor-a-bed/

The Lakeside Stoller Campus is a bespoke school’s facility which will replace the current accommodation on the YMCA Lakeside site.  The Lakeside Stoller Campus facility will be on the banks of Lake Windermere. During the past 50 years YMCA Lakeside has given over 1 million children and young people the chance to take part in activities to improve life skills, become more confident and take part in outdoor education activities to prepare them for their future lives.  The new Lakeside development is due to open in in March 2019.
